While living and raising children on a small island in British Columbia, I began to connect more deeply with Nature. Slowing down, breathing in the ocean air, the stillness of the forest, and watching my children create, play and grow in a very natural way, I fell in love with the wild of island living.
In 2024 I learned to craft of cold process soap making and was instantly inspired to use seawater, and to collect sea kelp and dry it to make a Medicine Beach soap bar - named for a nature sanctuary on Pender Island. The inspiration continued and many of my bars are named for Island spaces, always connected with a healing spirit of nature.
Essential to every batch of soap is Seawater, collected from our shoreline and used as a base or palate into which the ingredients are blended. Salish Sea ocean water and seasalt are two of my favorite soap ingredients that are all natural and create a hydrating, long lasting soap bar with a luxurious lather.
I love to use plants collected on Pender Island and Victoria BC. Calendula, Hops, Nettles and more are dried and infused in olive oil to provide natural goodness and a nourishing quality to many of our bars.
Indigo, Alkanet root, Spirulina, Himalayan rhubarb, Turmeric, Annato, botanicals, and earthen coloured clays add natural colour and beauty to each bar. Activated bamboo charcoal and rose clay are purifying. Essential oils provide aromatherapy for soothing and supporting the nervous system.
Island Soul soaps are made with love and care for our bodies and the planet. The slow mindful creation of every batch of soap, made by hand, invites moments in the day to care for our bodies, to relax and enjoy the rituals in every day living. With deep appreciation for our earth home, we support plastic free living in using natural, biodegradable packaging.
My lifelong love of making pottery has blended well with the craft of soap making. When I'm not keeping pace with the exciting lives of our two teenagers, I love to dream up new soaps, learn more about plants, and spend time in the pottery studio.
